Tri County Hockey - House League

The Program

The House program is divided into groups by age, depending on the number of skaters and teams.  Players born in 1999 or after are guided toward the Kent State IP program and the Mite "C" activities.    Players born in 1998 and earlier are guided to the house program.   This year the house league will again have two groups, lower house (younger players) and upper house (older players).  Play starts in the middle of October and concludes in mid February.

Players typically will participate in one practice per week through mid November and have the opportunity to participate in Hockey Improvement Program (or HIP) after registration.   Players are then placed on teams within their age group in mid November, at which time inter-league games begin.  Teams generally have one practice and one game per week until the close of the season, with the exception of the winter holiday season.   Early in the season, many games will be played using the cross-ice high intensity development system.  This system is an outstanding developmental method used by USA Hockey.    In past seasons, house league teams have also enjoyed games against other house league teams, providing an opportunity to travel to other local ice arenas.

HIP - Hockey Improvement Program

As a member of the House program, your skater is eligible to skate in the Tri County HIP program.  This program is a weekly one hour on ice session designed and led by the Kent State Ice Arena Hockey Coordinator.  The program focuses on skating and stick handling skills.  The HIP program is scheduled for every Monday through the end of December

What will the players learn?

Players will continue to develop their skills following the guidelines provided by USA Hockey.  House League coaches are volunteers that will have participated in USA Hockey education programs and will have access to age appropriate USA Hockey materials.   Players can expect to develop forward and backward skating skills, stick handling skills, positioning, and game knowledge.
